RONKONKOMA, N.Y., July 27, 2018 – East/West Industries recently worked with the Girl Scouts of Suffolk County to develop and unveil a new Science / Technology / Engineering / Math (STEM) badge.
Girl Scouts who earn the East/West STEM badge will learn about the importance of STEM in business and the world-at-large, and will gain a deeper understanding of what it takes to design and manufacture seats, survival kits, oxygen systems and other products that save aircrew lives. Girls will also get a first-hand look at the reality of operating a woman-owned small business, according to company President Teresa Ferraro, who addressed a gathering of Girl Scouts and local leaders during a ceremony at East/West headquarters on July 19, 2018.
“From design and parts ordering to manufacturing, inspection, packaging and shipping — everything we do has STEM associated with it,” Ferraro told the crowd of visitors. “As you tour here today, ask questions, be a sponge, and absorb any information you can to help you explore the opportunities that await you in the future.”
Founded on Long Island in 1968, East/West Industries has a deep commitment to the community and is proud to support a range of worthwhile programs like the STEM badge, Ferraro said. “Fostering an early interest in STEM is critical to developing the next generation of business leaders and aerospace and defense professionals,” said Ferraro. “Our entire team is delighted to be part of such an important initiative, especially right here in Suffolk County where we live and work.”
East/West Industries is a growing business that moved into a spacious new facility in Ronkonkoma in 2017 and routinely earns aerospace and defense industry accolades for its high-quality products, which include aircraft seats for a range of high-profile military helicopters. Earlier this year, East/West Industries was one of only 13 companies honored for distinguished performance as a Supplier of the Year working with The Boeing Company, which has more than 13,000 active suppliers in 57 countries.
